General Health

You are encouraged to register with a local GP (General Practitioner) surgery when you first get to Cambridge. If you have lost your form or didn’t register, here is a list of GPs: http://www.cusu.cam.ac.uk/welfare/generalhealth/gps.html. It’s important you register as GPs cannot provide short notice, urgent appointments for people who are not registered.

Costs

Both home and international Cambridge students, and their dependents, are entitled to free healthcare provision from the National Health Service, so visits to your GP and emergency treatment at Addenbrooke's are free. Students are not, however, generally exempt from paying prescription charges, dental or optician's costs unless they are under 19 years old. Students 19 or over can only get free prescriptions if they have a Certificate of Exemption. These are available to some students on the grounds of low income but are only valid for six months at a time, so remember to keep applying even if you are well. All home and overseas students can apply for financial help with NHS prescriptions, dental treatment, sight tests and glasses using the HC1 form. Get in contact with the college nurse, GP, Addenbrooke's or CUSU or alternatively call 0854 850 1166 to get one delivered.

Dentistry

The University Dental Service allows you to register for NHS or private dental treatment. If you register it is far easier to be seen in an emergency.
