Recycling Guide
There are central points in ‘dustbin court’ (behind the TV room), in the King’s Street Car Park, and Cromwell Court. There are several other collection points around college as listed below. Within college it is possible to recycle pretty much everything – cans, glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, batteries, plastic bags, old mobile phones and empty printer cartridges – so there’s no excuse! CUSU Green and Ethical Affairs hold collections for unwanted clothes, listed in green email bulletins from the Green Officer. For more information about ethical issues including Fair Trade please click on the following link http://www.srcf.ucam.org/sidneymcr/green/ethics.php

Recycling in student accommodation
Those in Cromwell have their own recycling point. Blundell now have easy access to the large bins in the King’s Street Car Park. Hostels have their own recycling collection system. Students in all other accommodation areas should collect their own glass/plastic/paper recycling and take it to the nearest point for disposal once a week. Large recycling bins for Cromwell Court are currently being ordered and will arrive as soon as possible.
Sidney’s Green ethos
Following the college’s carbon audit last year, Sidney’s resolve to be as environmentally sensitive as possible has been renewed. The college Environmental Committee comprising the Manciple, fellows and student representatives are committed to formulating and implementing green policy and practices in college. In line with the university GoGreener! Campaign which strives for sustainability across the university, Sidney has signed the Cambridge Climate Charter. To try and reduce energy consumption, the college has now installed energy saving light bulbs in all rooms and is progressing towards light-sensitive lighting in all stairwells and corridors. The college is well on the way to achieving fair trade status, and the kitchens source free range eggs and local food, including from the college garden! If any students have any queries or suggestions to make about sustainable practice or policy in college, please contact either the JCR or MCR Green Officer who will bring the matter to the next college environmental committee meeting. The minutes from all Environmental Committee meetings are available to view online on the Sidney Sussex website by logging into SidNet, clicking on ‘committees’ and ‘Environmental Committee’.
