
Summer Internship at Sidney
Sidney Sussex wishes to recruit two students to work as summer interns in its busy Bursary & Tutorial Offices during the summer months.
Each internship is for a period of up to four weeks over the summer months, with a preference for covering all or most of July and September; the precise starting date and duration of the internship will be agreed with the successful applicant in due course.
Salary will be £300 per week for a 35 hour week; we will additionally provide you with a College room and you will be entitled to lunch with the College staff each day; there will be no charge for either accommodation or food.
Working as part of a close-knit team you will be responsible for a portfolio of individual research projects under the supervision of one of the principal officers; for example, past interns have assisted the Bursar and Senior Tutor by
- collecting and presentation of market data for the Investment Committee;
- collecting and analysing data on Tripos performance;
- researching the biographical details and College associations of past donors and benefactors commemorated in College Prizes, and using desk-top publishing software to present the results in commemorative flyers accompanying the Prize letters;
- researching legislation and current practice in other Colleges/Universities on issues varying from data protection to student information.
Additionally, you will help out the staff in Bursary and Tutorial in a variety of routine administration tasks, from answering telephone and email enquiries, to data processing and photocopying.
This position requires focus, commitment, keen attention to detail and excellent computer skills, including a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Software. The applicants should also have an excellent telephone manner, and a flexible approach to work. Applicants, who may be available for work in College until Christmas, should state this in their application if they wish to be considered for the temporary post of Admissions Office Assistant, which is also being advertised separately.
